For the Love of Scarves

Jacket:             Zara (old, but similar here)
Scarf:               Zara (old, but similar here)
Jeans:              Level 99
Booties:          Nine West (old, but similar here)

One thing I really love about dressing for the cold weather is being able to wear scarves.  To me, scarves are one of the greatest accessories.  There are a million different options to choose from—all different colors, patterns, shapes, sizes, textures, and price ranges—and they instantly make any outfit look chic.  Feeling blah about your outfit? Like it’s missing something?  Add a scarf and I guarantee you will be impressed.  If you don’t believe me, just take a look at the queen of all scarf-wearers Jessica Alba.  She always looks super cool in a scarf and sunglasses.

Here are a few of the scarves I’m lusting after this season:

Faux Fur

Vest:                Quiksilver (old, but similar here)
Sweater:          J Crew
Jeans:               AG Adriano Goldschmeid
Booties:           Nine West (old, but similar here)

I went to Boston this weekend and was finally able to wear some real fall clothing.  This faux fur vest by Quiksilver is one of my favorite purchases from last year.

For a long time I steered clear of the faux fur trend, mainly because most of what I saw in stores more closely resembled road kill than something I would consider wearing.  To me, faux fur never quite looked or felt as good as the real thing (sorry PETA, but I grew up in NY with an Italian mother who has an affinity for mink coats, what do you expect?).  Then I saw this vest by Quiksilver in a magazine and my opinion changed.  Not only does it look more like the furs I remember seeing in my mom’s closet, but it feels very luxurious, and only cost about $120.  I really like 6 Shoreroad's version also (especially because of the hood).

If you’re looking for the real thing but don’t want to shell out the bucks, check out shopgoodwill.com.  They always have a large selection of pre-owned furs for super cheap.

Pop of Green

Dress:              Madewell
Belt:                 Madewell
Shoes:             Ash
Necklace:       Dogeared

These Ash sandals are one of my favorite purchases of the summer.  When I saw them featured on the ShopBop home page I had to have them. Despite the bright color, they are very versatile.  Colored shoes and accessories are a great way to spice up an otherwise basic outfit.

Inspired

Jacket:             H & M (old, but similar here)
Pants:              H & M (old, but similar here)
Tank:               Frenchi
Shoes:             Tahari

If you know me, then you know that I have a slight unhealthy obsession with Blake Lively.  If you know Blake Lively, then you know that no one, and I mean no one, can rock a pant suit like she can (case in point Blake Lively in a red Michael Kors suit and Louboutin heels at Good Morning America).  Beyond perfection.  I usually try to avoid pant suits at all costs, but when I saw this one at H & M in New York City, the cut of it totally reminded me of the Michael Kors suit Blake Lively wore.  I was inspired, so I bought it.  Even though I’m not sold on the color, I really like the modern style and fit.

Pretty Paisley

Shirt:         Frenchi
Pants:       Zara (old, but similar here)
Watch:     Michael Kors
Bracelet:  Unknown brand (but, similar here

If you couldn’t tell from my prior posts, I’m kind of obsessed with wide leg pants (see here and here ).  I like to pair my wide leg pants with super high heels, and I like them to be long enough to touch the ground.  Since I’m pretty short, this has the effect of lengthening my legs (which is always a good thing).

Somewhere in the tons of fashion related materials that I read, I came across a discussion on the “pajama” pants trend.  I can’t remember where I read it, but the tip was not to pair “pajama” style pants with a loose top because it would look too -- for lack of a better word -- pajama-ish.  I tend to disagree with this because I like the way the loose top gives the pants a more casual vibe.  If these pants were still available I would consider getting another pair and shortening them so that I could wear them with flat sandals- it would be cute for the beach.

Jacket:            Zara (old, but similar here)

Skirt:               Mango (old, but similar here)

The first time I wore this skirt I was visiting my parents. As I came out of my room, very impressed with my new skirt, my Dad looked at me with a straight face and said… “So, you’re going for the Amish look today?” In case there is any confusion, he did not mean it as a compliment.  Since my Dad’s idea of  high fashion is Costco brand jeans and Timberland work boots, I brushed off his comment and went on my way. Anyway, Amish or not, I love this skirt. I love the bright color and the flowiness of the fabric. It is very girly, but the army green jacket gives it a bit of an edge.  I bought this jacket in the beginning of the summer and have been waiting months to wear it!

Shades of Fall

Shirt:                Gap (old, but similar here)
Skirt:                JCrew
Necklace:        Banana Republic (old, but similar here)
Shoes:              Steve by Steve Madden (old, but similar here, also dying for these)

Even though it is still ridiculously hot in Miami, I’ve been dying wear all my pretty fall-colored clothes.  As I’ve told you guys before, the colorful JCrew No. 2 pencil skirts are an obsession of mine.  I love the way the mustard yellow looks combined with the leopard print.  I think the neutral shirt is a nice balance to the bright skirt and wild shoes.

I’m already thinking of other ways to wear mustard and leopard this season.  Like my Zara leopard pants…

Fishtail

Shirt:     Forever 21 (old, but similar here)
Belt:      Madewell
Jeans:    7 For All Mankind (old, but similar here

This top is one of my greatest Forever 21 finds.  I saw this shirt on the Forever 21 website a few months back and it reminded me of the sleeveless button down shirts by Equipment that I love so much.  I ordered it in this color and ivory and I love them both.  I think it looks just like the Equipment shirts, but it cost about 1/10 of the price (and it is machine washable).  Doesn’t get better than that!
